2021 Black Roses Sangiovese

November 20, 2022 - 2020 Black Roses Sangiovese, North Coast. Two vineyard blend, brunello-grosso clone, vineyard in Southern Fountain Grove district. This vineyard was planted 30 years ago, biodynamic vineyard practices since inception. Sadly lost in the 2020 wildfire. The fruit was destemmed and fermented whole berry, aged for 18 months in neutral Hungarian oak. The second sight, Jane’s vineyard, in Hopland, Mendocino County, is piccolo (chianti) selection of Sangiovese. Carbonic whole cluster fermentation, aged in neutral French oak, 18 months. Red plum on the nose, with notes of sage, rosemary and raspberry. Medium bodied red wine, red fruit driven, seared blood orange peel, with a medium long finish. Light on its feet, with the structure of red mountain fruit. Excellent with roasted duck, pork ribs, paired with saffron risotto, with foraged chanterelles.
